If your notebook has an Intel processor then, 2 x 8 GB for an installed 16GB DRAM will work.
If the processor is an AMD processor, the max installed memory will be 8 GB.

Ok.
Then you can install two compatible 8 GB memory modules for a total of 16 GB installed memory.
Interesting fact: Finding specifications on your notebook is extremely difficult.

Since your laptop is so long out of production, that is what makes it difficult.
From the Maintenance & Service guide for your laptop model series
Memory modules (2, DDR3, 10600, 1333-MHz):
size HP part number
8 GB 634091-001
4 GB 621569-001
2 GB 621565-001
1 GB 639736-001
The 8GB module is what you need for the desired upgrade to 16 GB.
