Specs for the model series:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_7400656-7400705-16

Confirming 32 gigs of DDR5-5600 and NVME Gen 4.0 PCIe SSDs are supported.

See p. 33 of the Service Manual.

Manual

I will quote:

The computer offers two solid-state drive slots, (1) primary and (2) secondary. Both drives require that you
install a thermal pad between the bracket and the drive.
NOTE: Solid-state drive (1) can house up to a Gen4 solid-state drive. Solid-state drive (2) can house up to a
Gen3 solid-state drive.

So only the primary M.2 slot will run a Gen 4.0 PCIe M.2 SSD at full speed. The secondary slot is capped at Gen 3.0 speeds. So if you install the Gen 4 device in Slot 2 it will work but at lower than optimum speeds. Also please open the laptop to confirm configuration before buying upgrade parts. Make sure there are, in fact, 2 M.2 slots.

I actually suspect 64 gigs of RAM will work and if you want to try that, we can tell you how to confirm. Also the Manual I posted is for a slightly earlier predecessor model but its the one HP has on your support page. The layouts are the same so its a relevant manual. Good luck

Thank You for your response and so the slot that is empty of the SSD would be the back up one ??? Looking to just add Gen4 SSD if its possible and should i go with the heat sink that Comes with the

-WD_BLACK 4TB SN850X NVMe Internal Gaming SSD Solid State Drive - Gen4 PCIe, M.2 2280, Up to 7,300 MB...

or should i use the copper one thats inside the computer now ..

this is the Ram i would like to get'

please let me know what you think

I think either heatsink would be fine. Stay away from gaming or performance memory. HP notebooks are designed to work with stock OEM memory and the timings on the performance type modules will often keep the laptop from booting up. Use Crucial purchased from the specific model page on their website or get something like this, but in the 2 x 16 form:

thermal pad goes underneath the SSD or inbetween SSD and heatsink

HP Recommended

You clip the SSD heatsink on top of the SSD i.e the side away from the motherboard. It wicks heat away from the module

HP Recommended

ok ..  what about the thermal pad you said to install

Look at the top of p. 33. I was quoting the Manual about the thermal pad. Its a sticky adhesive thermal pad that goes between the SSD and the "bracket". Together they make a heatsink. You can buy adhesive thermal material that will work:

Hello thanks for the help and suggestions  DUE not that this particular model will not take the WD heatsink it is a smidge to big for the back panel and the 32 gig works flawlessly, though the back panel is on but not clipped all the way and the second SSD drive does work at full GEN 4 speed per the SSD drive app shows temp, space, speeds at witch it will read and right. Thanks again for all your help. Where can i find more of the screws hp uses i find that their very delicate and i must have used like 2-4 different phillips head screwdrivers to figure out the right one.

what kind of screws?
