Welcome to the HP User Community.
The battery might be failing.
This can be a likely cause of sudden and intense heat of this type - the battery is located in that area under the touchpad.
What else?
The CPU could be dirty / dusty - less likely but possible - blow out the dirt and dust.
Switch off the computer - unplug it - don't place a computer on a wood or vulnerable surface.
If the computer remains hot after it is shut off and unplugged -
Move the computer to a safe location outside and away from your house / office / garage
Have the computer checked by a competent technician.
