@tenzoi,

Assuming HP will take on this repair job, it is going to be expensive.  Not because of the replacement cooling fan -those are generally inexpensive, but the labor and other costs will drive up your repair bill -and we haven't even considered the downtime either, which can be considerable.

Chances are that if you are minimally DIY-savvy, you can replace your laptop's cooling fan yourself.  To that end, what model laptop are we talking about?  I can find the correct part number for the offending cooling fan, where to buy one, and last but not least also link a YouTube instructional video.

Or, if you would rather not take on this project, I would recommend taking your laptop to a local laptop service/repair shop.

Kind Regards,

thank you for your response. i did buy a new laptop, but want to keep the old one because it works well except for the fan.   you are correct, im not ready to take the laptop apart.  a friend suggested i take it to the geek squad at best buy for an in-person evaluation. i called them first. they said they will tell me the part number, have me buy it, and they will install it, est $60.  i have an appt this afternoon to bring it in to determine the part number.  thank you so much for your kind offer!
