A few weeks ago, my keyboard started malfunctioning. The following keys are unresponsive: caps lock, b, n, fn, 5, 6, and -. On the num pad, 6 and 7 are not working.
I have tried every single solution I found, and even took it to multiple repair shops, all said I should replace it but they don't have the parts. So, I decided to buy this product: https://www.ebay.com/itm/275511041498 and follow the teardown instructions from HP on YouTube, though they don't show keyboard replacement on the video.
Does anyone have any other resources? I am not very familiar with this kind of task, but any advice would be appreciated!
Thank you!

Hi @acaciaisnotatre,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're experiencing a hardware issue with your HP Victus 16 keyboard. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.
Basic Troubleshooting Steps
- Restart Your Laptop: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve hardware issues.
- Check for Debris: Make sure there is no debris or dust under the keys. Use compressed air to clean out the keyboard.
- External Keyboard Test: Connect an external keyboard to your laptop to see if the issue persists. If the external keyboard works fine, it's likely a hardware problem with the built-in keyboard.
Software and Driver Checks
Update Drivers:
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand the Keyboards section.
- Right-click your keyboard device and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
Check Keyboard Settings:
- Go to Settings > Ease of Access > Keyboard.
- Ensure that Sticky Keys, Toggle Keys, and Filter Keys are turned off.
Perform a Clean Boot:
- Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and hit Enter.
- Under the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services and then click Disable all.
- Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager.
- Disable all startup items.
- Restart your laptop and see if the issue persists.
Hardware Troubleshooting
Check the Keyboard Ribbon Cable:
- If you're comfortable opening your laptop, you can check if the keyboard ribbon cable is properly connected to the motherboard. Be sure to turn off the laptop and disconnect it from power before doing this.
Run Hardware Diagnostics:
- HP provides a built-in diagnostic tool called HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
- Restart your laptop and repeatedly press the F2 key.
- Select Component Tests > Keyboard.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
