Hardware acceleration is not working, and I suspect the firmware. Example: I used to be able to play the game Banished on this computer back in 2015 Via Lubuntu version whatever the year 2014 was called. Now it is very slow. This product is discontinued from HP and was manufactured in 2009. The HP website said I could try the HP forums for support for retired products. I hope someone can please help. Is there some start switches I tell GRUB to use at boot time, or maybe a firmware update that I can tell fwupgrd to get?

HP retires support for PCs that have reached 10 years of age.

Any HP consumer class notebook's BIOS files from that manufacturing time period need to be run in Windows.

It is impossible to look for a BIOS update for your notebook when you did not provide the full model number or product number for it.

I did, as there was a field for that, but for some reason, the forum is not displaying it. Here it is again, HP Pavilion Entertainment notebook pc dv6 1030us.

The last BIOS update HP released for your notebook was F.46.

Below are the info and exe file links to BIOS version F.46:

I already found it via Google AI. Now I need to figure out how to make the USB drive do it at boot time. The file is a Windows exe file, so I used Peazip to extract the 3626F46.fd file. Apparently, that is the update that the CMOS needs to update the BIOS. I am guessing the rest of the files do the actual flashing. Google AI says I need to make a Boot USB stick and boot the laptop with that, but that part is unclear, so I am rereading it to try to figure out how to do it.

I was just tired last night. I reread the instructions, and now I think I understand. I just have to wait until Amazon Prime delivers my new USB drive, then I can use Sparky Linux's USB image writer to write the .fd image and make the thumb drive bootable. I can then reboot the laptop with the thumb drive, and as long as Rocky Mountain Power doesn't have a power outage, which hasn't happened in months, it should update to the new version.
