Screeching noise started spontaneously last night. Really loud, and the LT was in sleep mode when it started. Had to power down to make it stop, and noise comes back as soon as it's powered back up. Suspect CPU fan or HDD about to fail. Not going to open this thing up myself - tried that on the last LT, and failed to fix issue, but did at least get it back together.
So: repair options? Anybody have a service they like in the East SF Bay area: Oakland, Berkley, etc.?

I reviewed your post and I understand that you hear a screeching noise as soon as you turn on the laptop.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
I recommend you boot to BIOS (Restart the computer and start hitting the F10 to boot to BIOS) and check whether you can hear the screeching noise. If yes, then it might be a hardware issue and I recommend you contact support to check the available service options.
Here is how you can get in touch with support.
1)Click on this link – www.hp.com/contacthp/
2)Select the product type.
3)Enter the serial number of your device or select let HP detect your product option.
4)Select the country from the drop-down.
5)You should see the HP phone support number or Chat option listed.
If you do not hear any noise in the BIOS, then I recommend you update the BIOS and the graphics driver from the below link and check if it helps.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
