SD card is the best option for the 32 gig Streams. Move the libraries (pics, videos, music) over to it and new stuff will store there.

The HP Stream lines have a 32 GB eMMC for the hard drive, which is the only storage.  This is limited for normal use or even when Windows 10 wants to update.  I have seen workarounds that involve an SD card or a external hard drive.  They are involved procedures and only work temporarily. If you choose this route, then a 32GB SD card will work or an external drive, IMHO, I would use a small external drive (1 or 2GB) to save data.  When Windows updates on these systems, it will eventually need to be reinstalled using the Windows 10 media, which then installs a clean up-to-date version.  That is found here:

If you need the install media for Windows 10, you can make it from this Microsoft download

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

With a working PC, scroll down to the "Using the tool to create installation media"
and then follow the directions to can make the USB.
When the install asks for the product key, click the I don't have a product key option to continue,
then the install will continue It will be activated once it connects to the internet, as it uses a digital key.

Of course that is also only temporary as it will eventually run out of space as it goes thru and need to be done again with a new media - cannot use the one used previous it needs the latest version to avoid updates.

That still does not give me enough room to update can you please tell me what external hard drive i can get that is compatible ?

Probably just use the external hard drive for data storage, directing any software to use the external drive and then reinstall Windows on the regular SSD drive using the install media from the link I posted

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Move any data you wish to keep to the external and then wipe the internal by booting to the USB where the Windows 10 install media is downloaded and pick custom install from the menu once it has booted to the media.  Make sure the external is disconnected when doing this.

Most any external drive that connects with USB from WD, Toshiba or Seagate will work very nicely
