sd card reader corrupt

before a prevoius update my extrenal sd card reader worked fine to upload pictures and documents. I tried to upload pics this past weekend and it woulhd't upload anything. kept saying need to format sd card. It was already formatted . I can't loose the pics i have on card.

What can i do>>

My digital camera worked with my sd card rearder and laptop earlier this year. I have pictures on my sd card that I can't loose. Please help. I am not on all the time buy will check back

Thanks for the extra details, don’t worry, we’ll focus on helping you recover those pictures safely. Since your SD card was working before and now shows a “need to format” message, that usually means the file system is corrupted, but the data may still be recoverable.

Here are the safest next steps:

Stop trying to write to the SD card

Don’t format it, even if prompted, that could make recovery harder.

Try a different reader or device

Sometimes the issue is with the external SD card reader, not the card itself.

If you have access to another reader or can connect the camera directly via USB, try that first.

Run Windows Error Check. (Read-only first)

Open This PC, right-click the SD card, and choose Properties → Tools → Check.

If it finds errors, cancel before fixing for now, we’ll want to back up data first.

Use recovery software

Free tools like Recuva or PhotoRec can scan the card and recover images to your laptop.

Be sure to save recovered files to your laptop, not back to the SD card.

Backup before repair

Once you have your photos backed up, we can work on repairing the SD card so it works normally again.

On this laptop there is no sd slot. Have to use a external card reader. My camera didn't come with any tranfer cords. I am not tech savy to say the least. I have tried to see pictures on camera and still says error with formatting disk.

To be honest I am not understanding the directions you sent. Is it possible to help me online with said task>>
