Hello,
Please accept my apology if this question has been asked before. I am not very computer savy. I just know enough to get myself in trouble.
The problem is it appears the sd card reader on my new HP Pavilion laptop is not recognizing the sd card from my Sony camera. I insert it into the slot and get nothing.
My first question is, will it simply not read the sd card from my camera as they are different kinds of cards. My HP Envy desk top computer reads the card from my camera fine but my new laptop doesn't.
I downloaded the Realtek card reader wizzard as suggested on other posts but it didn't help.
Can anyone help this computer dummy?

Hi,
What is your machine ? And what is your Sony. It may not support cards from Sony because many Sony cameras don't use SD cards. Please do not force it, this will damage both card reader and memory stick.
Regards.

MY HP laptop is a HP Pavilion, product #T0E02UAR and the Sony memory stick is a 4GB memory stick PRO Duo, Magic Gate, Mark2 and the camera is a Sony Cyber-shot, model DSC-H20. As I stated in my original post the Sony sd card fits and downloads on my HP Envy 750-055xt desk top and it has the same sd slot as my HP Pavilion laptop. The Sony sd card fits fine into the slot on my HP Pavilion laptop without being forced just as it does on my desk top. It just doesn't work. When I insert the sd card all I get is nothing, nata.

Hi,
I can't find #T0E02UAR, could be the following machine T0E02UA:
http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04960368
It has 1 multi-format SD media card reader or HP Multi-Format Digital Media Card Reader which supports SD/SDHC/SDXC only using Push-Push Insertion/Removal therefore your Sony memory stick PRO Duo, Magic Gate, Mark2 won't fit.
Option: buy an USB multi format card reader, this may help.
Regards.

OK, I purchased an Insignia Multi-format Memory Card Reader. When I plug it into the USB port I get a tone signal that a device was pluged in but nothing else happens. When I go to My PC it does not show the device, so now how do I get my HP Pavilion laptop to recognze the multi-format memory card reader I just purchased?

OK, I purchased an Insignia multi-format memory card reader and pulgged it into one of the USB ports on my HP Pavilion laptop. I get a tone telling me a device was connected but nothing else happens. I do not get a message telling me a device was pluged in like I do when I plug my headphones in. I also clicked on MY PC and it isn't showing the device. How do I get mY computer to recognize the device so I can download photos from my camera to my computer?
I thought I posted this reply earlier but must not have hit post.

Hi,
Have you put the Sony card to the reader yet ? Does it support Sony cards ? Does it come with driver ? If all YES, please open File Explorer (old Windows Explorer) to see.
Regards.

OK, Please, I said I was not computer savy but I am not stupid.
Yes I have pluged the Sony sd card into the device. It tells me in the instructions it supports Memory stick, MS PRO, and MS-DUO. It tells me which slot and whether the label on the memory stick needs to be face up or down when pluged in. It tells me when I plug it in my computer installs the drivers automatically. It tells me to go to This PC and to doubble click the drive for the slot I am using to view its contents, but there is nothing there. It is as if the computer is not recognizing the device.
Like I said the computer makes a tone when the device is pluged in and when it is unpluged, but that is all.

Hi,
Have you checked File Explorer yet ? Have you tried a different USB port on your computer? Have you tried new card reader on a different computer ? Have you looked at Device Manager ?
Under Device Manager you should see something similar to the following image (at least 2 items):

I pluged the device into a different USB port and I get the same results. I pluged the device into my HP desk top computer and it works great.
Under Disk drives in Device Manager on my HP Pavilion laptop there is only one item. It is, Toshiba MQ01ABD100. That is the only thing it shows. There is nothing that shows SanDisk SD 75N65-256D-1006 or the other SDHC Card.
