Hey, I've just installed a new SSD M.2 Sata, and I have cloned my win10 OS from simple HDD into this SSD.
The problem is that I can't  set the SSD as bootable driver eventhough it is at the top of the order.
My question is : is this still possible but I need to change installed OS or other configuration? or is it totally impossible for this hp version ?

Finally, it works 😄

The probleme is that the clone of the system actually failed and wasn't considered as bootable at booting, thanks a lot for your advices, they drove me to the solution.

Hi:

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

HP ProBook 440 G3 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide

Chapter 1 has the supported drive types.

I do not see dual storage configurations listed, so the PC may not support dual storage.

Normally if dual storage options are supported, the manual will state so, as you can see in this model's service manual...

HP Pavilion 15 Laptop PC Maintenance and Service GuideIMPORTANT! This document is intended for HP au...

What I suggest you do is this...

Temporarily disconnect the 2.5" drive and see if the notebook boots up and works fine with the M.2 SSD.

If it does, format the 2.5" drive wiping everything and connect it back up and see if the notebook will boot from the M.2 SSD.

If not, then dual storage is not supported.

Indeed, I couldn't boot from only SSD, even if try to reinstall linux on it.

So, is there no solution to activate Dual Storage?  like bios updating or something else?

None that I know of.

So bad 😕

One last thing, what does the lack of dual storage mean exactly? only the impossibility of booting from SSD? can I still take advantage of speed if i install some programs on it?

HP Recommended

Do you mean that even if you remove/disconnect the 2.5" hard drive, the notebook won't boot from the SSD?

It should boot from the M.2 SSD with the hard drive disconnected.

Chapter 1 of the service manual indicates that the SSD is set as the primary storage device if one is installed.

Mini card M.2 2280 SSD (NGFF), SATA-3
Supports the following drives:
● 256 GB TLC
● 128 GB TLC
Set as primary storage if selected.

Oh ! then maybe I did some thing wrong.
Actually, I put a new SSD, and I can use correctly when I boot my system with HDD (so no material problem) .
So, is there some configuration that I need to apply when adding a knew SSD ? because I can't boot at all with the SSD alone, even with bootable USB

HP Recommended

I'm surprised that the notebook won't boot with just the SSD installed.

Is there a setting in the BIOS to make the M.2 SSD the primary boot device?

You may find that setting if there is a storage devices menu in the BIOS.

There is no manual that shows the BIOS settings, so I don't know what options you have in the BIOS.

You're very welcome.

I rarely if ever clone drives due to the issues you experienced.

I always clean install Windows on new drives.

Glad you got it all sorted out.
