HP Notebook - 15-bw032nr
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

monitor went black while surfing internet.  eventually went to a loop on reboot with the "trying to repair" message.  got to the self test option screen and had a hard drive short DST failure id of:  6bsbvs-8pnbk1-xd7urg-60rf03 .  any hope of getting this thing to boot up again and trying a system restore or to do a back up of files to a USB flash?

Hi:

You can repair the problem by replacing the hard drive and reinstalling the operating system.

Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the hard drive removal and replacement procedure.

HP 15 Laptop PC (AMD)* Model numbers: 15-bw0xxHP 15g Laptop PC* Model numbers: 15g-bx0xxHP 15q Lapto...

You may want to consider replacing the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a better performing 2.5" solid state drive (SSD).

It is very unlikely that you will be able to recover any files, but you can try this...

Buy a SATA to USB cable.  Something like this...

BENFEI SATA to USB Cable, BENFEI USB 3.0 to SATA III Hard Driver Adapter Compatible for 2.5 inch HDD...

After you remove the drive, plug one end of the cable into the drive and the other end into a working PC's USB port and see if you can read/copy any files from the failed drive to the PC.

After you replace the drive, you can use the HP cloud recovery tool to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.

Here is an info link for how to use the utility.  You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive.

Since you have to use the tool on another PC to create the installation media, you will need to enter your PC's product number i the tool's search window to create the recovery media.

Your PC's product number is: 1VK30UA#ABA
