Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP pavilion 15-cx0xxx , not getting the performance i should (FPS) even on lowest possible graphics on low requirement games, i put them so low you cant barely make out whats going on and still terrible. Gtx 1050 and i5 8300h , not expecting much from it but friend has a hp laptop with a uhd 630 and older laptop in bad shape which performs much better and mine is supposed to be a gaming laptop so i thought there was a problem. When i bought the laptop i never planned on gaming on it and when start up and web browsing was extremely slow i just put it in a drawer for a year .  I've updated drivers which was not working at first and i had to find a work around. Changed battery plan to maximum on and off power(plugged in). Selected to use better gpu on the games i wanted to try. Tried many other things that don't come to mind by watching videos. Ye I restarted it.

Welcome to HP Community

I have gone through your Post and would like to help

I suggest you download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/psg/p...

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Also ensure Windows is up to date.

Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available

Next try these steps

  • Go to Start Menu > click on Settings.

  • Type performance > choose Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows.

  • In the new window, go to the Visual Effects and select Adjust for best performance.

  • click Apply and ok...

If the issue persists,  follow the suggestions of the HP Guided Troubleshooter:

Keep me posted how it goes

Thank you and have a wonderful day 😊

Did what you said and there were no issues (not resolved).

I don't have the same specs as you but I feel your pain. I also have an HP laptop with a GTX 1050 and am barely getting 30 fps in games. This has lead to me wanting to upgrade my CPU to a better processor

@TYforscamlaptop there are many ways to increase FPS and system performance:

  • Update the BIOS.

Go to HP Notebook PCs - Updating the BIOS

  • Update the graphics driver.

Go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, enter your PC model, then select the driver for your graphics card.

  • Most games allow you to change the graphics settings. Using a lower graphic quality often improves FPS.

  • Close any applications or programs that are not being used.

  • Turn on Game Mode. Game Mode is a new feature in Windows 10 Creators Update that improves gaming performance by limiting background processes and programs from using system resources while a game is running.

    1. Press the Windows key and G to open the Game bar.

    2. In the game bar, click Settings.

    3. Click the check box next to the game title to enable Game Mode for that game.

Plug notebook PCs into an AC adapter to give the graphics card more power.

@Aruran we don't recommend or support CPU upgrades, that said, the above steps should help.

I will try these but I really want to upgrade my CPU can you check if the CPU can be replaced?

@Aruran I'm afraid CPU cannot be upgraded, HP does not support or recommend the same,

that said, please try the steps and get back to me with the results,

The tips aren't really improving my performance, is it worth going to a repair shop and asking them if they can take out the CPU? Its driving me crazy how much bottleneck is going on.
