my hp 360 envy started showing this 90 B error since yesterday and it was working just fine before that . I did all that I coukd have done , contacated Hp support people gave them the access and they did run an update , checked hardware too . when I ran boot my fan speed failed bt when hp support guy did it it passed . he then recommended that I just restart the whole thing and I did however the problem still remains . Now what to do . I am worried sick because it does feel like my latop heats but when placed on a cool floor or vertically it doesnt and no fan noise either so yeah.... Also I am in Pakistana and my laptop was purchased from US and it was a gift.

Hi @pakistani22
Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot and resolve the 90B error and the fan issues you're facing:
1. Check Fan Functionality
- Check for Fan Obstructions
- Clean the Vents:
- Listen for Fan Noise.
2. Thermal Paste & Heat Management
- Thermal Paste: If your laptop is still under warranty, I would recommend contacting HP support again, but if it's out of warranty, you might want to have a professional technician check the thermal paste and heatsink to ensure they are properly applied and functioning.
- Overheating: If your laptop feels hot but doesn't show fan noise or is silent when placed vertically, the cooling system may not be efficiently cooling the internal components. Thermal throttling could be happening, where the CPU/GPU speeds are automatically reduced to prevent overheating.
3. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics Again
- Power off your laptop.
- Press the ESC key repeatedly as soon as you power it on to access the Startup Menu.
- Select F2 to run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
- Choose Component Tests, and then run the Fan Test and the Thermal Test.
4. BIOS Update/Reset
- Check for New BIOS Updates: Go to the HP support website and enter your laptop's model number (HP Envy x360 15-fe0000) to check for any new BIOS or firmware updates.
- If the latest version is already installed, try resetting the BIOS settings to default to ensure no incorrect settings are causing the thermal issue.
- Restart your laptop and press the F10 key to enter BIOS setup.
- Look for an option to Restore Defaults or Reset BIOS settings.
After restoring defaults, restart your laptop and check if the issue persists.
5. Check Power Settings and Performance Modes
- Right-click on the battery icon in the taskbar and select Power Options.
- Select Balanced or Power Saver instead of High Performance to reduce stress on the system and prevent overheating.
- Additionally, go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options and select Change plan settings for your current power plan. Make sure that Processor power management settings are not set to maximum performance, as this can cause excessive heat buildup.
6. Try to Perform a System Restore.
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
