Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If some keys on your HP notebook keyboard are not working and you'd like to replace the built-in keyboard, here are the steps to guide you through the process:
Basic Troubleshooting (Optional but Recommended)
Before replacing the keyboard, try these steps to confirm it's a hardware issue:
Run HP Hardware Diagnostics:
- Press Esc repeatedly during startup to access the Startup Menu.
- Select F2 to run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
- Choose Component Tests > Keyboard and follow the on-screen instructions.
If the test confirms a hardware issue, proceed to the replacement steps.
Replace the Built-in Keyboard
Here’s a general guide for replacing the keyboard (steps may vary slightly depending on your model):
- Power off the notebook and unplug all cables.
- Remove the battery (if removable) and back panel.
- Locate and loosen the screws marked with a keyboard icon.
- Gently release the keyboard using a plastic pry tool.
- Disconnect the ribbon cables carefully from the motherboard.
- Install the new keyboard by reversing the steps above.
