I have :
HP ENVY Notebook m7-u109dx ,
I would like to replace my hard drive with SSD or m.2 SSD, is it possible? Also which ones are compatible with my laptop, what do I need additionally(if any) to do this. Please help.

Hi:
According to chapter 1 of the service manual, your notebook has a M.2 slot that supports SATA SSD's only, not NVMe.
This would be a recommended M.2 SSD for your notebook...I selected the 500 GB model for reference.
If you install a M.2 SSD, you should be able to use the 2.5" drive for storage, but you will probably have to remove Windows from the drive, or the notebook will always want to boot from the 2.5" drive first and not the SSD.
Your other option would be to replace the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" SSD.
I recommend the same Western Digital Blue 2.5" SSD in a storage capacity that meets your needs.
The performance would be exactly the same between a M.2 SATA SSD and a 2.5" SATA SSD of the same brand and storage capacity.

That is correct.
SATA M.2 SSD's have notches on both ends of the contacts.
NVMe SSD's have only one notch.
The drives with two notches in them fit just fine in the slot that only has one key.
