Hi.  Can I intstall an ssd in the HP Notebook--17-by0040nr.  Any assistance will be appreciated.  agarnett25

Please tell us what kind of Samsung SSD you already have but if it is a 2.5 inch SSD and your laptop already has a 2.5 inch hard drive the answer is yes.

Yes, you can install M.2 SSD on your machine. There are few compatible products - may be more
