Normally yes, you can replace existing HDD with a faster SSD but we need to know EXACLY what is your Pavilion G6 to be able to help more. Please use the following instructions to find out the model/product of your machine:

Please do NOT post its Serial number (s/n).

According to page 4 of HP Pavilion G6 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide , you can replace your 2.5" HDD to a 2.5" SSD. No m.2 SATA-3 or NVMe SSD supported.
