I bought an HP 14s-CF0980TX about 2 years ago (warranty still on but I have no plan for claiming it because HP service centre in Indonesia are not trustworthy). It seemed to have decent spec (see below) but oddly it takes no less than 5 minutes to log on,  and another 10-30 minutes before I can actually open an app/program, it often freeze (even when I only work with Notepad).  Shutting down also takes forever, I can't put it to sleep because then it won't wake up (must be forced shut down first before restarting). I have tried to disable many start-up app/programs but it didn't resolve any of those problems. And because of that, I rarely use it.

Right now I may need to use it more often. But i really have to enhance it **bleep**ty performance. I plan to replace the hard drive (with SSD), upgrade it's RAM and install new OS (maybe I'll go with Linux).

However, I'm worried if after I do all that plan it's performance still **bleep**ty as it is now. So my question are:

Anyone had the same problem and how you overcame it?

Is it support NVME and RAM upgrade? I feel this question is stupid becuse it should be on the product manual but oddly it didn't.

HP 14s-CF0080TX hardware overview:

Intel i3 base clock 2.2 Ghz

4 GB DDR4

Radeon 530

1TB 2.5" HDD

It preinstalled with Win 10 Home.

Hi @worstdecision

Welcome to the HP Support Community. Thank you for contacting us.

I see that you are facing a performance related issue on your HP system. Do not worry we are here to help you fix the issue.

May I know from when are you facing this issue?

May I know if you have made any recent hardware or software related changes to your system?

May I know if it happens only while using any particular application or in general?

I would suggest you update the BIOS and other drivers of your system. Here is a link that will help you update the drivers: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_2857204-2362249-16

I would also suggest you follow the troubleshooting steps shared in the link below and let me know the outcome of it: https://support.hp.com/hk-en/document/ish_1997135-1444257-16

Also, please note that our support is limited when it comes to Linux OS.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Yes it does support a PCIE 3x4 ssd, and can use 16GB of ram. If the above steps by Nirvana_95 didn't solve your issues, in my experience your symptoms typically indicate some bad sectors on the hdd or slightly flaky ram. I would run the UEFI diagnostics on it as shown here- https://support.hp.com/us-en/help/diagnostics?category=computing  and do full tests on all the hardware, then report here the results.

If you want to get an ssd, you'll need to reinstall the OS, a helpful tool is here- https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_4511095-4511141-16  For memory, I would strongly suggest using Crucial vanilla ram that is guaranteed to work in your laptop. Don't buy any ram labeled as Performance ram, as there are no settings in bios to change memory profiles like XMP.

If you decide to do the upgrades, you'll need the Service Guide here- http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06146792.pdf
