I am having a hard time finding a pen that I know will be compatible with my kiddos laptop. Any help is appreciated.

Hi @forgotusername

Welcome to the HP Support Community! Thanks for posting your query!

We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for reaching out—I completely understand how tricky it can be to figure out stylus compatibility, especially when all you have is a product ID.

To make sure we can identify the right pen for the laptop, I’ll need to gather a few key details first:

  • What is the exact laptop model name/number (for example, HP Pavilion x360 14‑dwXXXX, HP Envy x360, HP Spectre x360, etc.)?
  • Does the laptop have a touchscreen and does it specifically support active pen input (like HP Rechargeable MPP Tilt Pen or Wacom AES pens)?
  • What operating system version is the laptop running (Windows 10, Windows 11)?
  • How do you expect your kiddo to use the pen—mainly for note‑taking, drawing, or general navigation?
  • Was the laptop purchased with a pen originally, or has it never had one before?

Once I have these details, I’ll be able to narrow down whether the device supports an active stylus (with pressure sensitivity and tilt) or only a capacitive stylus (basic touch). That distinction is crucial for recommending a compatible pen.

Could you share the laptop’s exact model number first? That will be the most important piece to start isolating the right options.

Hi @forgotusername

Thanks for sharing the screenshot.

  • Your laptop, based on the information you shared, has touch support with 10 touch points. This confirms it is a touchscreen model.

  • However, the system details do not indicate support for active pen input. Active pens (such as HP Rechargeable Tilt Pen or HP MPP Pen) require a digitizer layer in the display, which is not present on this device.

  • This means the laptop will respond to basic touch or passive stylus pens that mimic finger input, but it will not support advanced HP pens with pressure sensitivity, tilt, or palm rejection.

  • If your kid’s use is mainly tapping, swiping, or light note‑taking, any HP passive stylus designed for touchscreen navigation will work.

  • If you want to confirm pen support directly:
    • Press Windows key + R, type msinfo32, and press Enter.
    • In the System Summary, check the Pen and Touch field. If it says “Touch support” but does not mention “Pen support,” then only passive stylus use is available.

In short: your laptop supports HP passive stylus pens for navigation and simple writing, but it does not support HP active pens with advanced features.

i did the windows and r but found nothing on the pen or touch in system summary. he is really good at line drawing, so I wanted something he could doodle with mainly.
