HP Envy 17M-AE111DX
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My laptop model is HP Envy 17M-AE111DX (17-inch). I am using Windows 10 64-bit. Often the two buttons in the touchpad stop working and appear to be stuck down. It's a mechanical hardware problem, not software. I have updated the drivers to no avail. There is a hardware diagnostics tool you can use when the computer first starts before booting into Windows. Inside that, I use the Component Tests, then Mouse/Touchpad. When the buttons are stuck, those hardware tests fail, so it's not a Windows problem. When the buttons are stuck, the system generally acts as if they are stuck down (e.g. when you move your mouse, it selects text on the screen as if the buttons are down). The problem exists no matter what software application I am using. The part of the touchpad that is above the buttons works fine (i.e. the part that moves the mouse cursor). I have recently realized that I can make the problem come and go if I put pressure in certain parts of the computer, as if I were trying to bend/twist/fold the bottom half of the laptop. When the touchpad buttons are stuck, I can still attach an external mouse, which works fine. I bought the laptop new about 20 months ago. I have two questions:

  1. Can I fix the buttons?
  2. If I can't fix the buttons, is there a way to disable them completely in the driver, so that only the top part of the touchpad works (i.e. the part that moves the mouse cursor). I can control the mouse and even do button clicks using only the top part of the touchpad.

Thanks

@Big_Dork Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that the touchpad buttons are stuck.

Touchpad buttons are not users not repairable parts.

It is not possible to disable the buttons on the drivers.

I would request you contact our phone support and check for the support option. They will help you.

Here is how you can get in touch with phone support.

Thanks for your reply. I did the steps you suggested. After entering my serial number and country, it does not show me a phone number to call. It just says that my warranty has expired. Is there some other way to get the number to call to ask support questions? I am living in the US (Virginia), and my model is HP envy 17M-AE111DX. I tried looking for a service center, and the closest is 1.5 hours away.

Thanks
