Hi @Colzy66,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd like to help!
Since when are you facing this issue?
Here are some factors to consider:
Laptop chargers, especially those with higher wattage, can generate some heat during operation. This is typically nothing to worry about as long as it's not uncomfortably hot to touch. Slight warmth is normal as electrical components convert AC power to DC power for your laptop.
If your charger becomes extremely hot, to the point where it's too uncomfortable to touch or feels dangerously hot, there might be an issue. Overheating can be caused by a few factors:
If the charger is damaged or defective, it might generate excessive heat. In such cases, it's best to replace it to avoid any potential safety hazards.
Using a charger with a higher wattage than what your laptop requires can also cause excessive heat. Make sure you're using the correct charger recommended for your laptop model.
The charger can get warmer if the laptop is under heavy use while charging. Activities like gaming or running resource-intensive software can draw more power, causing the charger to work harder.
To address the issue:
- Ensure that the charger and laptop are placed on a flat, hard surface to allow for proper ventilation.
- Keep the charger and laptop away from soft surfaces like beds or couches that can block airflow and trap heat.
- Clean the charger's vents and ensure there is no dust or debris blocking them.
- If the charger is excessively hot or you suspect it's faulty, consider replacing it with an official charger.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
