Envy x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, I am Cristian and I have a problem with my new ENVY x360 (the version is AMD Ryzen 5 and GPU vega 😎

I use my laptop in my office connected to a external monitor with HDMI with the lid closed, but in this mode, the fan is always on and the CPU use is 1%. In the app HP Command center, I've changed the configuration to silent mode, but it is the same. I upgraded the bios firmware and updated Windows 10 and each drivers, but nothing have changed.

When I open the lid, immediately, the fan is off and the annoying sound of the fan working finally disappear.

I really appreciate your help.

@CristianRG,

Thank you for posting this on HP Support Forums!

I see from your post that you're having issues related to your HP notebook. Don't worry I'll be glad to help you.

In this scenario, I would suggest here is to try these steps here:

Follow the below steps to make changes, small tweaks to resolve your concern:

You can save power by specifying what the computer does when you close the lid or when you press the power button.

Depending on the setting you specify, pressing the power button causes the computer to do one of the following: Do nothing, Sleep, Hibernate, or Shut down.

Depending on the setting you specify, closing the lid causes the computer to do one of the following: Do nothing, Sleep, Hibernate, or Shut down.

Use the following steps to change power button and lid settings:

At the Start screen, type power options to open the Search charm. Select Power Options in the Search results.

In the left pane, click Choose what the power buttons do or Choose what closing the lid does.

To change settings for the power button, click the arrow next to When I press the power button, select the setting you wish to use, and then click Save changes.

To change the lid closure setting, click When I close the lid, select the setting you wish to use, and then click Save changes.

Disable the hibernation for windows OS to resolve the issue and you can check the below steps to accomplish this task:

Run the Disk Cleanup tool, and then at the bottom of the window that pops up, click on "Clean up system files". Check everything, hit OK, and let it run. You will free up several GB for sure.

Another thing to do is disable hibernate file. Run CMD as Administrator, and type the following:

powercfg hibernate off

Also, go into the power options and disable the hybrid sleep and if you don't use sleep, you could disable sleep mode as well,

Moreover, you can put the PC to sleep to Never

Also turn off the display to desired time and check if that helps.

If nothing work, then I would suggest the last option would be to perform a system reset on the PC - For detailed information, please click here.

Let me know how it goes for further assistance.

that said, If the information I've provided was helpful,

give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

Hi @Jeet_Singh
Thanks for all the information.
I did all the advices that you give me, but the problem is still happened.
I give you more details:
Case 1: When I use the HP Envy standalone (not connected to another external monitor) it´s work fine (the fan is quiet and just star running fast when I am using a lot of process).
Case 2: When I connect the HP Envy with open lid to external monitor (two monitors agt the same time), it is still fine same it before.
Case 3: When I close the lid and I use only the external monitor, everything is fine but the fan start working hard just in the moment when I close de lid.
I usually use the HP Envy (in my office) with external bigger monitor (case 3), I configured in power option "When I close the lid: Do nothing".
Clearly the case 3 is the problem that I have. Really, the noise is very annoying.

Thanks,

Cristián

@CristianRG,

Fan is system managed and unfortunately there is no way of making any changes.

In this scenario, I would suggest this could be a software related,  I would recommend you go ahead and update the Bios on your PC either from our HP support website, using this link or download it using HP support assistant.

To download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.

Take care now and do have a fabulous week ahead. 🙂
