@michaelbasa,

The 1mm thermal pad thickness is generally considered a safe option.  Like I said, I cannot find an official HP reference -not because the information doesn't exist, but probably because HP doesn't like customers replacing VRAM thermal pads...

@michaelbasa,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Thermal pads?  -Unless I am mistaken, HP uses thermal paste, but even if that is not the case, I would strongly recommend using a quality thermal paste, such as Arctic MX-4.

Here are two relevant/similar YouTube instructional video: (964) Replacing Thermal Paste HP-Omen 15 - YouTube or: (964) HP OMEN 15 thermal paste replacement & Disassembly fix overheating - YouTube, the only observations I would like to add to these video clips, is that they both omit removing/disconnecting the battery.  Bad practice: you absolutely need to do this.

Also, for cleaning your CPU/GPU, use a high quality "rubbing alcohol" -isopropyl with the least amount of water (>99%) and use Q-tips. I am using this product as a reference: Amazon.com: MG Chemicals 824 99.9% Isopropyl Alcohol Electronics Cleaner, 4.25 Fl Oz (Packaging May ....  After cleaning, and before you apply thermal paste, use compressed ("canned") air to blow out any dust/dirt, and this will also help to remove any trace of water left over from the isopropyl.

Hope this was helpful.

@michaelbasa,

I see, you mean:

To be honest, I couldn't find an 'official' HP recommended thermal pad thickness for your laptop's VRAMs.

Typical thickness for thermal pads used on VRAM modules in laptops can range from 0.5mm to 1.5mm. However, the exact thickness can vary based on the laptop model, the design of the cooling solution, and the manufacturer's specifications.

Here's a general guideline for thermal pad thicknesses:

  • 0.5mm: This thickness is often used for components that require minimal space between them and the heatsink or cooling solution.

  • 1.0mm: A common thickness used for many applications. It provides a good balance between thermal conductivity and cushioning.

  • 1.5mm: Used for components that require slightly more space, such as components with uneven heights or irregular layouts.

Again, it's crucial to get accurate information about the recommended thermal pad thickness for your specific VRAM modules. Using the correct thickness ensures proper heat transfer and cooling performance.
