Hi, due to cooling problems in my laptop, I decided to replace the thermal paste with thermal pads. I will put PTM7950 on CPU and GPU, but I have problems with the thermal paste of the chips, I did not change them at all, so I bought Gelid pads (1mm, 1.5mm) for them, but I do not know what thickness to use for each. Hope you can help

Hi @TheFlee,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

When replacing thermal interface materials in your HP Victus 15-fa0031dx, it's crucial to use the correct thickness for thermal pads to ensure optimal heat transfer and prevent damage.

Recommended Thermal Pad Thicknesses:

Component Area      Recommended Thickness

VRAM chips                        1.0 mm

VRM (power delivery)      1.5 mm

MOSFETs / Chokes            1.5 mm

Other small ICs                 1.0 mm

These values are based on user reports and teardowns of the Victus 15 series

Thermal Pad Tips

  • Use soft, high-conductivity pads like Gelid GP-Extreme or Thermalright Odyssey for better contact.
  • Don’t compress pads too much—over-compression can reduce thermal performance.
  • If unsure, use a small piece of non-conductive modelling clay to test the gap before applying the pad.

Installation Advice

  • Clean all surfaces with isopropyl alcohol (90%+) before applying pads.
  • Ensure even contact between the heatsink and chips.
  • After reassembly, monitor temps using tools like HWMonitor or HWiNFO64.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
