Hi @BbCrystelJoyce,
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're stoked to have you on board!
To help us get started on resolving your issue, could you please share the model name of your device?
Meanwhile, you can try these steps
Check Charger & Cable
Try a different HP original adapter if you can.
Avoid using third-party or generic chargers.
See if the ticking sound happens with another charger.
Inspect the Charging Port
Gently shine a light inside the charging port.
Look for dust, bent pins, or burn marks.
Use a dry brush or air blower to clean it.
If the port feels loose when you wiggle the charger, it could be a physical damage issue.
Battery Check (Windows Laptop)
Press Windows + X → select Device Manager
Expand Batteries
Right-click each entry and click Uninstall
Then click Scan for hardware changes
Or use HP Hardware Diagnostics:
Turn off laptop.
Tap Esc repeatedly → F2 → open Component Tests
Run the Battery Test.
Try Charging While Powered Off
Power down the laptop.
Plug in the charger.
If it charges normally while off, it's likely a software or background power management conflict.
BIOS & Power Reset
Shut down the laptop.
Unplug charger
Hold power button for 30 seconds.
Plug charger back in.
Boot up.
Then update the BIOS from HP Support Site.
I hope this helps.

Hi @BbCrystelJoyce,
Thank you for the response.
Thank you for the update, that’s really helpful information. If the clicking or ticking sound is coming directly from the system board when the charger is plugged in, it’s important to handle this carefully. A ticking or clicking noise from the motherboard during charging can indicate an electrical issue, short circuit, or failing power delivery component.
Here are the next steps you should follow:
Test with Another HP Original Charger
Please try using a different HP-certified original charger to rule out a faulty adapter or cable.
If the ticking persists with a known-good charger, the issue is more likely inside the laptop.
Perform a BIOS Reset/Hardware Reset
Shut down the laptop.
Unplug the charger and remove any external devices.
If the battery is removable, take it out.
Press and hold the power button for 30–60 seconds.
Reinstall the battery (if you removed it).
Plug in the charger and power on the laptop.
This can help clear any static build-up or power glitches.
Check for BIOS & Firmware Updates
If the laptop powers on safely, check for any BIOS or firmware updates:
Go to the HP Support website → enter your model number → look for BIOS updates.
Install the latest BIOS version carefully, following all on-screen instructions.
I hope this helps.
