Hi @WHsyed,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP laptop touchpad has stopped working after pressing some keys, there are several potential causes and solutions. Here are steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
Check if the Touchpad is Disabled:
- Some laptops have a function key (usually Fn + a function key, like F5, F6, or F7) that toggles the touchpad on and off. Look for a key with a touchpad icon and press it with the Fn key.
- Alternatively, there might be a dedicated touchpad disable/enable button near the touchpad.
Enable the Touchpad in Settings:
- Windows 10/11:
- Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
- Go to "Devices" > "Touchpad".
- Ensure the touchpad is enabled.
Check Touchpad Settings in Device Manager:
- Press Windows key + X and select "Device Manager".
- Expand the "Mice and other pointing devices" section.
- Right-click on your touchpad device and select "Enable device" if it’s disabled.
- You can also try updating the driver: Right-click the touchpad device, select "Update driver", and follow the prompts.
Restart Your Laptop:
- Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary issues with the touchpad.
Check for Windows Updates:
- Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
- Go to "Update & Security" > "Windows Update" and check for updates. Install any available updates.
Run the Hardware Troubleshooter:
- Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
- Go to "Update & Security" > "Troubleshoot" > "Additional troubleshooters".
- Run the "Hardware and Devices" troubleshooter.
Check for BIOS/UEFI Settings:
- Sometimes the touchpad can be disabled in the BIOS/UEFI settings.
- Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing F2, F10, Delete, or Esc during startup).
- Look for touchpad settings and ensure it is enabled.
Perform a System Restore:
- If the touchpad stopped working after a recent change, you can try performing a system restore to revert your system to a point when it was working.
- Press Windows key + R, type rstrui, and press Enter.
- Follow the prompts to choose a restore point.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
