Hi @julia162,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
It sounds like you're having issues with the touchpad on your HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 16-dy1xxx. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the touchpad issue:
1. Enable the Touchpad
- Sometimes the touchpad may be disabled accidentally. Press the function key (usually F6, F7, or F9) that has a touchpad icon on it, often in combination with the Fn key.
2. Check Touchpad Settings
- Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad and make sure the touchpad is enabled.
3. Update Touchpad Drivers
- Open Device Manager by right-clicking on the Start button and selecting Device Manager.
- Expand the Mice and other pointing devices section.
- Right-click on the touchpad driver (it might be listed as a HID-compliant touchpad or Synaptics/ELAN Touchpad) and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
4. Reinstall Touchpad Drivers
- If updating the drivers doesn’t work, you can try reinstalling them:
- In Device Manager, right-click on the touchpad device and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your computer. Windows should automatically reinstall the drivers.
5. Run Hardware Troubleshooter
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
- Select Additional troubleshooters, then choose Hardware and Devices and run the troubleshooter.
Please find the remaining steps in the next post.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @julia162 ,
Please find the remaining steps below.
6. Check BIOS Settings
- Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS setup by pressing F10 (or another key if specified on the startup screen).
- Look for a setting related to the touchpad under Advanced or Main menus. Ensure it's set to Enabled.
- Save changes and exit the BIOS.
7. Check for Windows Updates
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates. Install any pending updates that might include touchpad drivers.
8. Perform a System Restore
- If the touchpad stopped working after a recent update or software installation, you can perform a system restore to revert your laptop to a previous state.
- Search for System Restore in the Windows search bar, and follow the instructions.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, it could be a hardware problem, and you may need to contact HP Support for further assistance or consider visiting a certified repair center.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
