Hi @Danem1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Normal Trackpad Functionality:

  • It's normal for many laptop trackpads to have a tiny amount of play or noise when touched lightly. This is due to the mechanical design allowing for a click function. Many users report a slight sound or movement when the trackpad surface moves slightly over the click zone.

Check for Excessive Movement:

  • Gently press on different areas of the trackpad to determine if the amount of movement or noise is consistent throughout. Significant unevenness or excessive movement might suggest a physical issue.

Compare with Similar Models:

  • If possible, compare with another HP Pavilion Plus 14 inch laptop to determine if the movement and noise are consistent across models.

Physical Inspection:

  • Check for any visible gaps or misalignment around the trackpad which might indicate improper seating or assembly during manufacturing.

Initial Setup Issues:

  • Since the laptop is new, ensure that any initial protective films are removed from the trackpad area, as these can sometimes interfere with proper operation.

I hope this helps.
