If you're having trouble enabling the fingerprint reader on your HP ZBook 15 G5 Mobile Workstation, here are some steps you can take to resolve the issue:

Check Device Manager

  1. Verify Hardware:
    • Open Device Manager: Right-click the Start button and select “Device Manager.”
    • Locate the fingerprint reader under "Biometric Devices." If it's not listed, it might be categorized under "Other devices" with a yellow exclamation mark, indicating a problem with the driver.
    • Right-click on the device and select “Enable” if it’s disabled.

Update Drivers

  1. Update or Reinstall Driver:
    • Right-click the fingerprint reader in Device Manager and select “Update driver.”
    • Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software." Alternatively, visit the HP Support page to download the latest driver specifically for the fingerprint sensor.

Windows Biometric Options

  1. Set Up Fingerprint in Windows:
    • Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
    • Under "Windows Hello Fingerprint," select “Set up” and follow the on-screen instructions to add a fingerprint.

HP Software and Utilities

  1. HP Client Security Manager:
    • Install or update HP Client Security Manager, which might be necessary for fingerprint log-in functionality.
    • Upon installing, open the application and ensure the fingerprint reader is enabled and configured correctly.

BIOS/UEFI Settings

  1. Check BIOS Settings:
    • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI by pressing the designated key during boot (usually F10 for HP devices).
    • Navigate to the “Security” tab and check if there are any settings related to biometrics or fingerprint readers that need enabling.

Troubleshoot Conflicts

  1. Conflict with Other Security Software:
    • Ensure that no other third-party security software conflicts with the fingerprint reader functionality.

Additional Troubleshooting

  1. Windows Updates:

    • Check for any pending Windows updates that might include driver updates or fixes related to biometric devices.
  2. Hardware Check:

    • Ensure the fingerprint sensor is clean and not covered or obstructed.
