I currently have an HP EliteBook 9480m that has a Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-N 7260 card. I am looking to upgrade the card as this wireless connection on this card always seems to drop and I have to reset it.  This has been happening the last 6 months, but was okay before.  I have tried to update the drivers but no updates available.  I tried changing settings as advised online but problem still persists and have been advised to update my card as a lot of people seem to have the same issue as me with this card.

I  have been told to be very careful on choosing a card because of the BIOS Whitelist. Can someone from HP please advise me which card to get so I don't have any issues with the upgrade.   I know this laptop is old, but any help would be appreciated.  Looking for  a budget wireless card please that works well.  If you need my serial number, please let me know and I can send it in private message.

Thanks

Hi:

You can try the Wi-Fi driver from my SkyDrive folder at the link below.

Download, unzip and run the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth drivers in the Intel 7260AC WiFi & Bluetooth Drivers.zip file.

SkyDrive - OneDrive (live.com)

That was the last one released by Intel for the Intel 7260.

The zip file contains both the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth drivers, so install the Wi-Fi driver.

We do not work for or represent HP.

HP does not provide any information on which model notebooks have whitelists and which do not.

What we have found on the forum is based on reports from other forum members that install cards not listed as supported in the service manual.

All HP notebooks made in 2011 and earlier have BIOS whitelists.

Most HP notebooks made in 2012 - 2013 have BIOS whitelists.

Most HP notebooks made in 2014 and later do not have BIOS whitelists.

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

The only supported cards are listed in chapter 3 of the manual.

You may want to go with the Intel dual band AC card listed in the manual.

Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11 AC 2x2 Wi-Fi + BT 4.0 Combo Adapter   HP part # 710663-001.

An alternative that might also work is this one:

Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11 ac 2x2 WiFi + BT 4.0    HP Part # 710661-001

Since your notebook was probably made in 2013, If you want to throw caution to the wind, they make these modified Intel AX Wi-Fi cards that are of the HMC form factor.

If there is no whitelist, it should work.
