Hi

I was just going throught the manual of G62-355Dx and it lists a possible lot of processors. i`m at a loss cos i saw on a previous thread that the best upgrade processor for the G62-355DX is mentioned is a Phenom N930 Processor however the list includes more faster processors such as AMD Turion II N570 Processor and AMD Phenom II N970 etc...

Pls clarify why the Phenom ii N930 was chosen over the others.

@dihanangelo1, Thanks again for your response.

I did some research just to answer your question.

According to AMD website please find the processor type and release dates of the processor listed below.

Processor Type                Release Date

Phenom II N930               May 12, 2010

Phenom II N970               January 4, 2011

And HP g62-355dx was launched on 10/11/2010, So HP went with the latest processor available in the market.

Also, there might be other factors like cost involved in it.

Hope this answers your query!

Hey there! @dihanangelo1, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!

I understand you would like to upgrade the processor on your laptop.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Since you are using a laptop you cannot upgrade the processor on your laptop. As the processor card is embedded to the system board.

You have to replace the whole system board to replace the processor. And it's not a viable option as the system board would cost as much as a new laptop.

Please find the possible processor upgrades and part number for your laptop which tested and recommended from HP.

Hi

Im sure you are aware that the CPU is socketed. which means that it can be pulled out and replaced. Pls note that you did not answer my query yet too.

@dihanangelo1, Welcome back to HP forums.

I appriciate your efforts for writing back to us.

As you mentioned that you need to know CPU is socketed to your PC.

It is possible to upgrade the CPU on some laptops, but you'll need to hunt down a specific mobile processor for it. Laptops are far pickier than desktop PCs about such upgrades. It's a fiddly process, and depends on a couple of factors: whether the CPU is fixed to the chipset with adhesive or had the pin welded to the socket, and whether it's accessible and can, therefore, be removed and replaced.

Laptops are created on jigs (special frames) that ensure all parts fit snugly and correctly each time one is created. Manually opening up a laptop and doing anything more technical than swapping hard drives or adding more RAM isn't the easiest of processes and will almost certainly invalidate your warranty.

Hi

Thanks for the grand lecture on the manufacturing process.....

BUT!!!

My initial question was Why a AMD N930 was selected as a better upgrade than an AMD N970 or P960 etc....

thanks

Hi All

I was just wondering....

Replacing a 25w CPU with a 35w naturally increases the heat output too right?

So my query is would the stock heat sink capable of cooling down the higher TDP cpu? or needs to change

regrads

@dihanangelo1,

I read the post. Thanks for the reply. As @A4Apollo is out for the day, I am responding on his behalf.

What you said is correct. hen you replace the processor it is suggested to go with the heatsink and thermal assembly kit designed for that processor and not the original one. Please contact a technician locally so that he could assess the situation correctly for you.

Thanks and have a great day ahead. 🙂

Hi

Thanks for your reply. However does HP manufacture suitable heat sinks suitable for a G62-355dx which can handle 35w TDP? if so can i have a part number?

cheers

@dihanangelo1, Thanks for your response again.

As you mentioned you need to know the heatsinks part number for G62 PC.

I have checked the records and found the replacement part number for heat sink assembly.

Please find the part number listed below.

Fan/heat sink assembly (includes replacement thermal material) for use with:
