I have the same issue with multiple xiaomi phones, i have updated the BIOS. It keeps disconnecting. I've tried with different hp laptop 15 and it did the same. sometimes it does not even show the phone in device manager.
When on battery, after a while it also disconnects external USB audio mixer. I have specified in power options and in device manager to not turn off devices to save power, but it keeps disconnecting. Also, i-ve connected my piano via USB and it keeps disconnecting after a few minutes even if it shows in device manager. two laptops, same issue. please fix!!!! same problem on windows 11 and windows 10

Hi @udulik,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can feel the frustration behind your words when your creative tools, like your Xiaomi phones, USB audio mixer, and piano, keep disconnecting; it’s not just inconvenient, it’s disruptive to your flow, your work, and your peace of mind. Let’s walk through this together and get your HP laptops back to being the reliable companions they’re meant to be.

Recommended Fixes for Persistent USB Disconnections

1. Fully Disable USB Selective Suspend (System-Wide)

Even if you’ve disabled it in Power Options, Windows sometimes hides this setting.

Steps:

  • Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
  • Run this command to unhide the setting:

powercfg -attributes SUB_USB 0e796bdb-100d-47d6-a2f1-0e2f5d9f2a7b -ATTRIB_HIDE

  • Then go to: Control Panel → Power Options → Change Plan Settings → Advanced Settings → USB Settings → USB Selective Suspend → Disable

2. Disable USB Power Management for All Controllers

Sometimes Windows re-enables this silently after updates.

Steps:

  • Open Device Manager
  • Expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers
  • For each USB Root Hub, right-click → Properties → Power Management tab → Uncheck: “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”

Repeat for Human Interface Devices and Audio Inputs/Outputs.

3. Use HP Diagnostics to Check USB Hardware

HP laptops sometimes have motherboard-level USB power issues.

4. Switch to Hibernate Instead of Sleep

Sleep mode can keep USB ports powered, but unstable. Hibernate shuts down USB power cleanly.

Steps:

  • Open Command Prompt (Admin)
  • Run: powercfg /hibernate on
  • Go to Control Panel → Power Options → Choose what closing the lid does → Set to Hibernate

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
