hard drive :
Model: ST1000LM035-1RK172 Serial: WL12H15G Firmware: RSM7

I opened HP ticket 5018004813, according to seagate they don't have a firmware specific for HP, is it possible to find an updated firmware please (Dell Lenovo appear to have updated firmwares but they don't work on HP :

Those firmwares for Dell and Lenovo do not seem to work on HP, do you have any firmware for HP.

Simple answer is no. The drive is the same for all laptop makers and the actual firmware is the same and one user on that Seagate Forum I linked says he has modified the Lenovo installer to work on all models.

this is the screenshot of the lenovo flash mentioned in that discussion that does not seem to work with HP firmware "RSM7".

I will try to post to that forum if I can.

I also asked seagate whether they could forward me via HP because I doubt that Dell and Lenovo released updated firmwares needlessly because it's very apparent defective.

No the drive definitely needs firmware. Seagate should have its own firmware installer that works across platforms.

Check here to see if Seagate has a direct download:

modifying the fwwinsd.pro file of the lenovo firmware program with "RSM7" it actually starts, but fails with code 0x1 "stopped by a device reason", perhaps the firmware is locked down read only ?

this is really beyond stupidity in my humble opinion, why doesn't HP make the firmware available ?

or I'll have to return it in warranty ?

I don't know. The hard drive costs about $50 and I would not buy a laptop with a 5400 rpm hard drive these days but if you want to try to return it I guess you need to. HP has posted no firmare updater for this. Did you try to see if Seagate has downloadable firmware? The few times I have had to flash a hard drive firmware I got the flash file from the hard drive maker not the laptop maker.

We on the Forum do not work for HP and have pretty limited access to the back room where drivers and such are written.

I am sure they will not write and post a firmware updater even if we ask them to so it so as I said do what you feel you have to do.

I exchanged the notebook with another brand with western digital hard disk, in my humble opinion that seagate hard disk has defective firmware, but it's hard to prove I mean it would require an audit of the firmware by a third party inspector say ? however it might also be the AMD and microsoft SATA drivers sluggish it would seem.

I have a HP Pavilion x360 CD1023TX, using a ST1000LM035-1RK172 hard drive, I experience very slow performance, the usage of hard disks often stays at 100%. I got the correct firmware from HP, and managed to update from RSM 7 to RSM 8. Now the hard disk performance is much better, the response of the laptop is faster, the hard disk is not often 100% anymore.
