Hi, Sean:

Below is the link to the Crucial memory report for your notebook.

https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hP---Compaq/hp-15-db0031nr

The report indicates that you can install as much as 2 x 16 GB of memory, but that would only be for the notebooks with the Ryzen processors.

Yours would support 2 x 8 GB of memory.

Below is the link to the service manual...

Hi, Sean:

The report is for your notebook but your model only supports 2 x 8 GB of memory.

Here is the HP part surfer report for the product number you posted, showing the same model number as the report I posted.

https://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?searchText=4JB82UA

Here is the link to the product specs page for the product number of the notebook you posted.  Note the same model number.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06085996

The parts list indicates that your notebook came with 1 x 4 GB of DDR4-2400 MHz memory.

Your options would be...

Remove the 4 GB chip and max it out to the 16 GB limit using 2 x 8 GB of DDR4-2400 memory

Add an 8 GB  DDR4-2400 chip to the 4 GB chip and have 12 GB,

Add a 4 GB DDR4-2400 chip to the existing 4 GB chip and have 8 GB.
