what can i do with USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C™ (Data Transfer Only, 5 Gb/s signaling rate) EXACTLY?

 

I tried connecting my iphone using type-c to lightning cable but unfortunately the laptop doesnt recognize it at all (nothing happen/ pop out).  So what does it can do ?

I have gone through your Post and would like to help

 

As per the Service Guide: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06446633 the USB Type-C port is not a Thunderbolt port. You can connect USB devices, such as a cell phone, camera, activity tracker, or smartwatch, and provides data transfer
