My laptop battery does not charge beond 55 %. Howver, the battery lasts for 3 to 4 hours. When I ran a Battery Check using the diagnostics/F2 option, the result said Battery Check: Primary - Replace (42)and Failure ID ID MAGG3A-8G59GP-MFPURG-C0BN03
What does this mean?

Hi,
The failure id means that the battery should be replaced as it has lost much of its capacity to hold a charge.
I usually replace the batteries in my laptop about every 18 months or so. The part number for the battery is 849909-855
You can search with part number online and find an original or quality compatible battery.
On page 31 of the service manual you can see the steps to replace the battery:

Hope it helps,
David

Hi David,
I ran the tests twice again after a couple of hours and this time the results were 'Passed'. My laptop seems to be behaving very erratically. I am confused if I should replace the battery now or wait for a few more months.

Well the tests sometimes do behave differently especially when the battery is near the end of its life. If it is not creating problems for you, you could wait until it does create a problem for your everyday use. You could also update the BIOS and see if it helps with the charging problem if you have not already done so:
