- what does warranty status "sold by third party" mean?

I bought an HP laptop as 'open box' refurb. from an online retailer. In the warranty check, under warranty status it just says "sold by third party". What does that mean!? That there is no HP warranty on this machine?
Thanks to anyone who can answer what is hopefully a very simple question.

Laptops Direct, and yes, that figures, I think they also give 3 months warranty on refurbished, I was just a bit puzzled when the setup process pointed me at the warranty checker and I didn't understand what the words meant!
Sounds about right, but the warranty checker could use clearer wording.
Thanks for your help.

Quite likely yes. The seller likely bought refurbs from HP and got a very good deal on them by agreeing to be the source of warranty. Even if you buy a refurb directly from the HP refurb store you generally only get 90 days' warranty. From whom did you buy the laptop?
