Manual

It says 8 gigs is the max. Are you sure you have 2 x 2? Usually 4 gigs in 1 x 4 but not impossible you do have 2 x 2, in which case you need 2 x 4 to get 8. Get a matched pair.

You can upgrade to a 2 tb mechanical drive if you wish but if you are going to 1 tb do yourself a favor and at least get a 7200 rpm spin speed drive so you will get some performance benefit:

Here's the specs:

You have an i5 3rd gen processor which is fine. You have 4 gigs of RAM which should be 8 gigs and you also have a 500 gig 5400 rpm hard drive which should be an SSD. Here's the Manual:

Pages 35-42 show how to do both upgrades and on your model they are completely user-accessible, authorized upgrades. There is an easy access panel.

Add one more 4 gig RAM module:

4 GB (PC3, 12800, 1600 MHz) 641369-001

https://www.amazon.com/HP-641369-001-1600Mhz-PC3-12800-memory/dp/B008L325TW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1...

You need to replace the slow 5400 rpm spinning mechanical drive with a fast solid state drive:

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-2-5-Inch-Internal-MZ-75E500B-AM/dp/B00OBRE5UE/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=...

This will be the most expensive part. You could perhaps get by with a 250 gig for a bit less money. I would not go smaller.

The hardest part will be getting software onto the new drive. Do you have an HP restore disk or other backup of your hard drive.

We are happy to help. There are several different ways to do it. Since you have Windows 10 64 bit a clean install disk can be downloaded for free from Microsoft.
