HP Pavilion 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop PC 15-ec2000 (2P6B1AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello. The power supply burned out (200w), bought a new original one. When charging is turned on, the processor frequency drops to 0.4 Hz. When running on battery power, it works adequately as before, but when the power is turned on, performance does not increase, but drops to almost impossible. In this case, the battery charges and holds normally. I have already tried to exclude the battery from the circuit. Please tell me where to look, any suggestions.

Hi @Seiva,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're describing with your HP Pavilion 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop PC 15 could be related to several factors. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem.

Check Power Plan Settings:

  • Open the Control Panel and navigate to Power Options.
  • Ensure that the power plan is set to High Performance or Balanced.
  • Check the advanced power settings for both battery and plugged-in modes to make sure the CPU minimum and maximum states are not set too low.

Update BIOS and Drivers:

  • Visit the HP Support website and download the latest BIOS update and drivers for your laptop.
  • Install any available updates, especially those related to the power management and chipset.

Reset BIOS Settings:

  • Enter the BIOS setup by pressing the appropriate key (usually F2, F10, or ESC) during startup.
  • Reset the BIOS settings to default values.
  • Save changes and exit.

Check Thermal Management Settings:

  • Some laptops have thermal management settings in the BIOS or pre-installed software that can throttle the CPU when plugged in.
  • Look for any settings related to thermal management and adjust them if necessary.

Check for Overheating:

  • Ensure the cooling system (fans and vents) is clean and free of dust.
  • Use a cooling pad if necessary to improve airflow.
  • Monitor CPU temperatures using a tool like HWMonitor or Core Temp.

Run Hardware Diagnostics:

  • Use the HP Hardware Diagnostics tool to check for any hardware issues.
  • Access this by pressing F2 during startup or by using the HP Support Assistant.

Check for Software Conflicts:

  • Perform a clean boot to see if any background programs are causing the issue.
  • Disable all startup programs and non-Microsoft services and see if the problem persists when plugged in.

Test with a Different Power Adapter:

  • If possible, try using a different compatible power adapter to see if the issue persists.
  • Ensure the power adapter is providing the correct wattage and voltage.

Battery and Power Supply Unit:

  • Since you've excluded the battery from the circuit and the issue persists, it's less likely to be the battery itself.
  • Double-check the specifications of the new power supply to ensure it matches the laptop's requirements exactly.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it might be a more complex hardware problem, potentially with the laptop's power management circuitry.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
