from what I can understand, my product number is XL574EA#ABU and serial number CNF0429TV2. I would like to buy some more ram but nothing seems to relate to these numbers. Please could you tell me what I should be looking for. Thankyou.

CQ56-111sa is the model number and it originally shipped with 3 gigs of RAM.
The memory is ancient DDR2-800. The max it can take is 2 x 4 gig modules but unfortunately DDR2 is very expensive. A pair of DDR2-800 4 gig modules will set you back well over $100US. And frankly, it would be a poor investment as the laptop is so very seriously limited by the rest of the hardware.
Page 44 of the Service Manual shows "how to" install memory:
If you still have 3 gigs it would be worthwhile to upgrade to 4 gigs.
You would need to replace the 1 gig module with a 2 gig module:
The post above links to crucial.com. Ignore that link as it is showing DDR3 which is wrong. The Kingston link is correct.
