Hi @you9_,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you are experiencing an issue with your HP Spectre x360 15 where the battery indicator blinks white when charging to 99%, and the laptop only powers on when plugged into the AC adapter after being off for several hours. Based on your detailed description, here are a few things to try.

Battery Calibration Recheck: Even though you mentioned calibrating the battery, sometimes the calibration process needs to be repeated. Make sure to follow the official HP battery calibration process:

  • Fully charge the battery to 100% and leave it plugged in for 1-2 hours.
  • Then, unplug the charger and allow the battery to drain down to 10-20%.
  • Fully charge the battery again to 100% without interruption.

Battery and AC Adapter Check: The fact that the laptop works fine when plugged in suggests the AC adapter and the charging port might be working fine. However, the blinking white LED could indicate an issue with the charging circuit, battery communication, or the battery itself. Given that you have replaced the battery and SSD, ensure that the new battery is genuine and compatible. Sometimes, third-party or faulty batteries can cause charging issues.

Perform a Hard Reset Again:

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Remove the AC adapter and battery (if possible).
  • Hold down the power button for 15 seconds to reset the power circuit.
  • Reinsert the battery and plug in the AC adapter.
  • Power on the laptop and check if the issue persists.

Check for BIOS Settings: Sometimes, specific BIOS settings related to charging or power management could interfere with battery operation. Since you've updated your BIOS to version F21, it's worth checking the BIOS settings (e.g., "Battery Care" or "HP Battery Health Manager") to see if there are any power-saving or battery management features enabled that could be causing this issue.

HP Support Assistant or Diagnostics: Run the HP Support Assistant software if you haven't already, as it can help detect and fix software or firmware-related issues. Additionally, check if there are any updates to the firmware or drivers related to power management.

Inspect Battery Connection: A loose or poorly connected battery can cause issues. Make sure that the battery is securely connected to the motherboard. You might want to gently disconnect and reconnect the battery connection to ensure it's seated properly.

Check for Overcharging Protection: Some HP laptops have an overcharging protection mechanism where the battery stops charging at around 99%. This is often to preserve battery life, but if the system is struggling with this process, it could be why the white blinking occurs. If the issue persists at 99%, it could be a software/firmware-related issue. Checking for HP firmware updates may help.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
