It is the nature of a legal contract that it makes sense to those who speak its language - the rest of us depend on interpretation.

You are asking a volunteer workforce to answer a legal question.

You know this, yes.

If you have not done so, I suggest you read the contract document.

I believe that...

  • You can change the drive without violating the warranty as long as you do not break anything.
  • The new drive won't be covered except under its own hardware warranty.
  • If you send in the computer for repair HP makes all decisions on Warranty.
  • Contracts of this sort protect both consumer and company.

HP is not responsible to honor my opinion.

Clear as mud.

Submitting Request for an Assist

  • I will submit a request that someone take a look at your question / concern.

Worth Noting

  • Our Community is not HP Technical Support, nor are we HP Sales or HP Service.
  • Our request for assistance on your behalf does not influence the outcome:  Our request is not a magic back door into HP Support.
  • The time frame (how long it takes) for a response is not controlled by the Community.
  • If / When there is a response, a Community moderator / agent will (should) post back on this thread before using other methods to contact you.

Note to those reading:

  • Do not contact random numbers posted in a public or private message by “new members”.  Vermin are looking for victims – don’t be next.
  • Please do not post any personal or case information here - we cannot make use of the data.
  • Posting personal information at a public site increases your risk from rats and scammers.

In Brief

You'll have to ask HP what HP will do in any situation concerning Warranty service or Warranty coverage.

Our Community cannot answer questions about the Warranty.

We can provide the information (ie., the document) and we can post our opinions.

In other words, it does not matter what we say - We are not HP Support.

Warranty Check / Product Registration

  • Register your product during first setup or soon afterwards

Register HP Product and Registration FAQ

  • Check the Warranty on your product

Warranty Check – Single or Multiple Devices

NOTE:  If the single-system-check fails to find your device, use the "multiple devices" method to

check single or multiple devices.

  • If necessary, Select your Country on the main website page or at the bottom (click Flag)
  • Scroll down > To the right of Check multiple warranties, Click Continue
  • Enter the Serial Number and Country for one or more devices / systems to be checked
  • Check the box to verify you are "Not a robot"
  • Click Submit (at bottom of list entries)
  • When the page opens, Click View Details  ⬅️

NOTE: The online database results do not impact the actual contract.

Warranty Dispute

Excerpted: If you think the warranty details of your product are incorrect, submit a dispute through the HP warranty validation website.

Discussion / Personal Observations / Opinions

In general, you can add / replace your computer's disk drive / SSD.

Not all subjects are not specifically mentioned in the Warranty document.

Any interpretation of the content of the Warranty document(s) and any interpretation of a subject (mentioned or not) is at the discretion of HP.  (Personal opinion and "Cover-thy-backside" statement.)

As long as nothing goes wrong when making changes, the Warranty on the computer in its original configuration might remain intact.

Any changes in hardware that you make are not covered - Not the act of changing the hardware and not the change in configuration.

If you break anything, it is not covered.

If the new drive hardware fails, if you purchased the drive / SSD from HP, that physical drive might be covered under its separate warranty.

The software changes you make in consideration of adding or changing the computer's original configuration are not covered.

@TahaHasan585 Though, HP neither recommends nor supports upgrades/downgrades, doing so at your own discretion does not void the warranty, although, the new parts you put in will not be covered by HP, and if that causes any issues to the rest of the components, charges would apply to have the device repaired (in case of physical damages).
