Hi @kartik75

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand the concern you are facing with your OMEN 16‑inch Gaming Laptop. Since the issues have appeared together—system freezes, high resource usage, heating, and Windows security updates failing—it is important to run through structured HP diagnostics and updates to stabilize the system.

Here are the steps you can follow:

Run HP App – Diagnose & Fix

  • Open the HP App from the Start menu.
  • Select Diagnose & Fix and allow it to complete the checks.
  • This will automatically scan for hardware and software issues and apply corrections where possible.

Update BIOS and Drivers via HP App

  • In the HP App, go to Updates.
  • Install all pending BIOS, chipset, graphics, and thermal driver updates.
  • Restart the laptop after updates are applied.

Check Windows Update Components

  • In the HP App, after updates, run Windows Update Troubleshooter from Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters → Windows Update.
  • This will reset update components and may allow the security updates to install.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI)

  • Shut down the laptop.
  • Power on and immediately press F2 repeatedly to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  • Run System Test and then Component Tests (Memory, Processor, and Video).
  • Note any error codes and keep them for reference.

Thermal Management

  • In the HP App, open Performance Tune‑up Check.
  • Clear temporary files and optimize startup applications.
  • Ensure vents are clear and the laptop is placed on a hard surface for airflow.
  • If heating persists, check for BIOS thermal updates as mentioned above.

Retry Windows Security Updates

  • After completing diagnostics and updates, go back to Windows Update and retry installing the pending security updates.
  • If they still fail, use the Reset Windows Update Tool within the HP App.

These steps will help identify whether the issue is hardware‑related or caused by system updates. Running the diagnostics first ensures that the hardware is stable before retrying the updates.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
