So i dont really know what has been happending to my windows 11 as the fan startes working very loudly, then i start the laptop and it works then stop works then stop once i have been using the laptop for a long time, then it runs constantly and still makes alot of sound futhermore when it is started everything is very slow like typing and opening apps the laptos was fine before but i really dont know what has occurred which has caused this I'm not sure what has been happening with my Windows 11 laptop. The fan starts running very loudly when I turn it on. At first, it works fine, but then it stops and starts again after I've been using it for a while. Eventually, the fan runs constantly and is still very loud. Additionally, when I start the laptop, everything is slow, like typing and opening apps. It was working fine before, but now I really don't know what could have caused this issue.

Hi @Reyansh5

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how unsettling it feels when your laptop suddenly becomes noisy and sluggish, especially since it was working fine before. You’ve already observed the fan behavior carefully, which is very helpful in narrowing down the cause.

Loud or constantly running fans combined with slow performance usually point to either high system load, blocked airflow, or outdated drivers/firmware.

Steps to improve fan noise and performance

1. Check for background processes

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  • Look under the Processes tab for apps or services using high CPU or memory.
  • End tasks that you don’t need running.

2. Clean air vents and ensure airflow

  • Power off the laptop and unplug it.
  • Use compressed air to gently clear dust from the vents.
  • Place the laptop on a hard, flat surface to allow proper cooling.

3. Update BIOS and drivers

  • Visit the official HP support page for your model:
    HP Software and Driver Downloads
  • Enter your laptop model and install the latest BIOS, chipset, and thermal management drivers.
  • Restart after updates.

4. Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics

  • Restart the laptop and press F2 repeatedly to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Run the System Test > Extensive Test to check hardware health.
  • Also run the Thermal Test to confirm the cooling system is functioning properly.

5. Adjust Windows power settings

  • Go to Settings > System > Power & battery.
  • Select Balanced or Best Power Efficiency mode.
  • This reduces CPU load and helps the fan run more quietly.

6. Check for Windows updates

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update and install all available updates.
  • Performance and thermal fixes are often included in cumulative updates.

Summary

The most effective immediate actions are to clear background processes, clean the vents, and update BIOS/drivers. This combination usually reduces fan noise and restores smoother performance.
