Once you are activated ,updated by WU and good to go- I would suggest making a System Image backup to external usb hard drive. No going through this hassle again. Just boot with bootable media and restore the Image-even to a new hdd.
I like Macrium Reflect. The free version works fine. Macrium is fast in creating the image and also in restoring it. I can restore an image and be back up and running in less than an hour. It has a utilty to let you create bootable cd to boot from and restore an Image.
