Pavilion 17-ab301na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello community,

################ STILL NOT RESOLVED #################

My HP Pavilion laptop 17-ab301na keeps getting blue screen of death with DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE.

The last change I have done is;

https://windowsreport.com/driver-power-state-failure-windows-8-1-windows-10/#4

Solution 4 and 5.

The reason I did this is because the last time I had the blue screen, when the laptop was closed without proper ctrl-alt-del.

Any advice much appreciated. Laptop is, sadly, out of warranty!

Thanks,

Stuart

Here's the link to some background support I had done with Zinou;

Hi @bingbang

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the "DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE" error.

Let's try these steps to update the computer -

Step 1 Windows Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Step 2 HP Support Assistant Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Also, perform the sfc/ scan -

1) Select Start, and in the search box, enter Command Prompt. Press and hold (or right-click) Command Prompt (Desktop app) from the search results and select Run as administrator.

2) Enter DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth (note the spaces before each "/").

3) Enter sfc /scannow (note the space between "sfc" and "/").

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi, I also got the blue screen with "VIDEO_DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR" too.

I have also performed the resolution found in below YouTube clip;

https://youtu.be/jbFDaZVwmnI

This seems to have worked, for now, and I have shut down, restarted, closed the laptop without performing the ctrl-alt-del > Lock. All seems well and fine, but I will keep the above in a log to try if this resolution does not work.

Thanks,

Stuart

No, trying this did not work. I still get the blue screen VIDEO_DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR intermittantly.

@bingbang

Let's try these steps -

1) In the search box on the taskbar, type Device Manager, and then select Device Manager from the list of results.
2) In Device Manager, expand Display Adapter.
3) Right-click on the Display Adapter, and then select Uninstall device > Delete the driver software for this device check box > Uninstall.
4) Restart the computer.

Download and install the BIOS, Chipset and Graphics drivers from this link

Let me know how that goes.

Hi Asmita,

As part of the HP Support Assistant, it is now saying I need to update the "Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver" and "Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Client Driver". This has completely installed so will restart my machine see how it operates from there.

Will keep you posted with progress.

Hi Asmita,

I have completed the "Download and install the BIOS, Chipset and Graphics drivers from this link." you mentioned also. I will let you know how I get on over the next few days!

Thanks,
