Hi @-1234

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how alarming it feels when your HP Spectre x360 suddenly shows a 3FO error. That code usually indicates the system cannot detect the boot device (hard drive or SSD). Let’s carefully go through steps to bring it back to working order.

Step 1: Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Disconnect the power adapter and any external devices.
  2. Press and hold the Power button for about 15 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the adapter and try powering on again.

Step 2: Check BIOS Settings

  1. Turn the laptop off completely.
  2. Power it on and immediately press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
  3. Press F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
  4. Under System Configuration, check if the hard drive/SSD is listed.
    • If it is missing, reseating or replacing the drive may be required.
    • If it is present, ensure the boot order has the drive set as the first option.

Step 3: Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  1. Restart the laptop and press Esc repeatedly, then press F2 for System Diagnostics.
  2. Choose Component Tests > Hard Drive/SSD.
  3. Run the Quick Test and then the Extensive Test.
  4. Follow the on‑screen instructions if any errors are detected.

Step 4: Attempt Recovery

  1. If the drive is detected but Windows does not load, restart and press F11 to enter Recovery.
  2. Use Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Repair.
  3. If Startup Repair does not resolve the issue, you may need to reinstall Windows using recovery media.

Step 5: Update BIOS

  1. Visit the HP Software and Driver Downloads page:
    HP Software and Driver Downloads
  2. Enter your Spectre x360 model number.
  3. Download and install the latest BIOS update.
  4. Restart the laptop after installation.

For more detailed guidance, you can also refer to HP’s official document:
HP PCs - Error: Hard Disk 3F0

These steps should help determine whether the issue is with configuration, the drive itself, or Windows startup. Once the diagnostics confirm the drive’s health, you’ll know whether it’s a matter of repair or reinstall.

Would you like me to also guide you through creating a USB recovery drive in case Windows needs to be reinstalled?
