I bought a used HP 8640p on eBay and received it today.
The seller had installed Linux on the hard drive, but there is a Windows 7 Pro OA product key under the battery.
Can I activate Windows 7 Pro with the product key?
I have a generic Windows 7 Pro 64-bit DVD that I burned back when Microsoft still had Windows 7 ISOs available for download.

Update:
When I tried activating Windows 7 online with the product key under the battery, it would not work.
I got a pop-up window with a 855 toll-free number to call and 8(?) boxes of 6 numbers to use when I called the toll-free number.
After saying all the numbers to the automated system, I was given another set of numbers to input into boxes in the pop-up window. You have to be pretty quick to input the numbers. The automated system's voice did not exactly speak slowly.
I was given another choice of using a smartphone to do the activation. Not sure what that was about.
Anyway, Windows 7 Pro 64-bit is activated!

Yes, I've had to do that sometimes too with W7 and many Office installations.
You always have to do it with Vista keys.
And yes...you have to be fast when the automated guy reads the numbers back to you!
I was also given the smartphone option too, but since I was at the PC, keyboard at the ready, I opted to go for the automated response method.
Maybe someday, I will see what the smartphone activation thing is all about.
