Hello everyone,
I recently had the unfortunate experience with frying the motherboard on my elitebook 840 G8 and am wondering if it is possible to swap it out for a motherboard from a G7. I am aware of the major hardware drawbacks however I want to be able to use my laptop again without having spend hundreds. Thank you in advance for you advice.
Info: current machine with the fried mobo is an 1145 with Touchscreen, biometric scanner, etc.

One thing you need to consider is the licensing issue -- as the OS that comes preloaded, the one with the HP custom drivers, is tied to the motherboard. When you toss that, you also toss the license -- and HP will not provide you a second one.
Plus, if you install Windows downloaded from MS, it will only have the generic MS drivers, so the hardware is unlikely to function properly.
If you then can find drivers on the HP site, you might be able to correct that, but H\P only provides drivers for current devices. Anything more than a few years old is likely NOT to be supported anymore.
